Privacy summary

Speak Easy Privately is designed for on-device voice typing. Speech recognition and optional text refinement run locally on your Mac. The app does not require an account and does not use cloud inference.

The microphone is not always listening. It opens only after you explicitly start a dictation—from your shortcut, the menu, or the recording control—and closes when recording stops. Speak Easy Privately does not capture microphone audio in the background.

Information we collect

None. The developer does not receive or store personal data from the app. Speak Easy Privately contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, tracking technology, remote telemetry, or developer-operated cloud transcription service.

We therefore do not sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build profiles.

Website contact form

The optional support form on this website is separate from the macOS apps. If you choose to submit it, the form sends your email address, selected app edition and topic, optional macOS version, and message to Formspree so it can deliver a support notification.

Formspree and the receiving email provider may process the submitted information and technical request data, such as your IP address, under their own privacy terms. Formspree’s free service retains submissions for up to 30 days. The notification email remains in the support mailbox until it is no longer needed.

This information is used only to answer your request. Do not submit dictated text, audio, passwords, or other sensitive information.

Information processed on your Mac

Audio

The microphone stays off between dictations. Audio capture begins only after you explicitly start a dictation and ends when you stop it. Runtime audio is processed in memory and is not saved as a recording by the app.

Transcribed text

The finished text can be copied to the macOS clipboard or pasted into the active application. Clipboard behavior and any clipboard-history tools are controlled by macOS and software installed on your Mac.

Optional local history and vocabulary

If you enable local history or add vocabulary, that information stays on your Mac. Saved history and vocabulary are encrypted locally with device-only Keychain keys. You can delete them in the app.

Settings

Language, shortcut, model, and interface preferences are stored locally so the app can remember your choices.

Model downloads in Lite

Speak Easy Privately — Lite connects to Hugging Face only when you choose to download an approved local model. The isolated downloader requests fixed model files and verifies them before activation. It does not send microphone audio, transcripts, vocabulary, clipboard contents, or local history.

As with any internet download, the hosting and network providers necessarily receive connection information such as your IP address. Their handling of that technical data is governed by their own policies. The full edition includes its models and does not need this download path.

Permissions

• Microphone: opens only for a dictation you explicitly start and closes when recording stops; there is no always-on or background audio capture.
• Input Monitoring / Keyboard Shortcut: observes the configured global shortcut so dictation can start while another app is active.
• Automatic Paste: optionally posts the paste shortcut to insert completed text.

You can revoke these permissions in macOS System Settings. The application and its local inference helpers operate inside the system-enforced macOS App Sandbox, and each edition uses its own application container.

Retention and deletion

Because the developer does not collect app data, there is no developer-held app data to retain or delete. Local history can be disabled, deleted immediately, or configured for automatic deletion. Removing local models deletes their downloaded files. Uninstalling the app may leave its macOS sandbox container until you remove the app’s local data through macOS or the supplied clean-install process.

Website support submissions follow the separate retention described in “Website contact form” above. You may use the contact form to request deletion of a prior support conversation.

Apple services

Apple may independently process App Store purchases, downloads, crash diagnostics you choose to share with Apple, and other platform data under Apple’s own privacy policy. Speak Easy Privately does not receive dictated content through those services.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change, this page will be updated before the new practice is introduced, and the effective date above will change. We will not silently convert local dictation into cloud processing.
